STOP 1: TROPHY BAR

A popular weekend spot for late night DJ's and dancing, Trophy Bar also has plenty to offer patrons who drop by earlier in the evening. With a spacious back yard and one of the best happy hour menus in the entire city, Trophy Bar is a great place to grab a cheap dinner and a drink.

$5 happy hour cheeseburger and fries

On weekdays from 4:00-8:00pm and weekends from 2:00-8:00pm, all drafts, wine and well drinks, including a pretty decent margarita, are $5. For the same price you'll find a selection of bargain bites, including a great cheeseburger served on a soft sesame seed bun with tomato, mayo and a side of salty fries. Normally $8, the burger is juicy, flavorful and a real good value. If you're not into red meat, you can order a veggie burger or a grilled cheese with tomato sauce, marked down from $9 and $7 respectively.

STOP 2: MOTO

Opening in the early aughts on a narrow corner under the tracks of the JMZ, Moto was among the first dining establishments to popularize the prefabricated patina that is now a timeworn trend in cafes and cocktail bars throughout the city. An archetype of heavily distressed, depression-era decor, Moto makes the most of its small space with tightly packed tables lining the wedge-shaped room and a horseshoe bar at the far end.

Delicious date cake at trophy bar

On Tuesday evenings, Kings County Swing plays 3 hours of Django Reinhardt inspired gypsy jazz beginning at 9:00pm. Featuring two guitars and a double bass, this trio is a talented group of musicians worth checking out, especially while sipping a glass of wine and sharing a slice of the appropriately named warm date cake, served with toffee sauce and fresh cream. It's rich, sweet and perfect for two.

RECAP:

  1. Trophy Bar: A fantastic happy hour with food and drink every day until 8:00pm. Check out the back yard.
  2. Moto: A narrow, dimly lit bar with live jazz on Tuesday evenings. Get the cake.
