Wednesday: Hole in One on the Hudson
/pier 25 mini-golf
Before teeing off on the Hudson River, dine and drink at two venues representing the past and present of Tribeca:
STOP 1: WALKER'S
An unpretentious watering hole and restaurant, Walker's is the place that you wish was your neighborhood bar, where the staff is often boisterous and loud and possibly having more fun than the patrons. Ready to take a table's orders on a recent evening, one particularly personable server reigned in a rowdy group of 12 by playfully exclaiming, "Ok everybody, listen up!" (which was met with exuberant cheers and applause).

Walker's opened in 1987 and restored many original features of the ground floor space, home to various neighborhood establishments since the 1880's. Everyone feels welcome at Walker's, so whether you're in the buzzing bar area or one of the more subdued dining rooms in the back, you'll find both proletariat and patrician putting back pints and pub fare (burgers are the way to go here).
STOP 2: BRANDY LIBRARY
While Walker's is a vestige of Tribeca's grittier days, the auspicious opening of Brandy Library in 2004 symbolized what the neighborhood had become. Serving pricey cocktails and boasting a collection of spirits over 900 bottles deep, many of them extremely rare, Brandy Library certainly caters to the neighborhood's well-heeled residents (which is pretty much all of them).

However, unless you are under the age of 25 (which the Library sets as the minimum drinking age), Brandy Library is still accessible to hoi palloi who want to sip a well made cocktail or sample a flight of scotch. The staff is welcoming and friendly and will gladly guide you through the encyclopedic, leather bound menu, which also includes small plates and some pretty good house made desserts.
STOP 3: PIER 25
TEE OFF AT TWILIGHT AT PIER 25 ON THE HUDSON
Finish off the evening by watching the sun set over the Hudson River, while playing 18 holes of mini-golf. With Sam Cooke playing on speakers throughout the course, there couldn't possibly be a more romantic place for putting (if you're going to propose, the 12th hole is a nice spot).
RECAP:
- Walker's: A large, unassuming neighborhood tavern with a diverse clientele. Classic Tribeca.
- Brandy Library: Upscale cocktail lounge with a massive inventory of spirits. Well-to-do Tribeca.
- Pier 25: 18 holes of mini-golf on the Hudson River. Sunset views.
